Is it really Doom & Gloom?g>In 60 Seconds and with less than 20 Questions tell us about your Business....

Here, new member Cassi PR owner, Irene Schofield talks about her organisation and gives two key business tips for us all....

Cassi Public Relations is a small public relations agency working with start-up, small and medium sized businesses. Owner Irene Scofield was previously Press Officer at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. "It was a marvellous seven years working with such an iconic brand. I was so lucky to work with a whole range of media - from Top Gear to US Vogue - and met so many interesting people from the local hospice to award-winning British architects Grimshaws".

Many people are not too sure exactly what public relations is, believing it's simply about marketing. However, it's much more than that. It's about building a brand, protecting a corporate image, promoting a product or a business. This can be done by sending out a carefully-written press release but also through working with charities, developing affinity partnerships with other like-minded businesses, achieving media coverage about your premises or your employees, developing a company blog, sponsoring a community or environmental project and much more. Marketing is always about the bottom-line. Public relations is about educating and influencing. After all, your brand is just as important as your product.

Irene's two tips for succeeding in business are:

"Apart from getting yourself a good PR person!"

1)     Support a charity - if everyone contributed the world would be a better place. Share your time, your skills or your expertise for that feel-good factor. Research shows that both employees and customers like to choose a company that supports a good cause.

2)     Networking  - not just going to events, which are great ways to build your own business - but also just putting people in touch for no other reason than because they might get on well and do some business together. For instance, I recently had an email from a contact at Vogue asking for some ideas on a particular theme and I was happy to recommend some businesses - not currently my clients - who I thought would fit the bill.
